Despite our commute time declining significantly since the start of the pandemic, we’ve still found a way to get our pod fix in, with comedy, radio catch-ups, and true crime among the most popular genres. But what about finance podcasts? We think it’s time they got more of a look-in. From daily Australian business news coverage to billionaire’s playbooks, here are six of the best.
Fear and Greed
Forget positive life affirmations; kick your day off with a little Fear and Greed instead. Every morning by 6.30am AEDT, economist and journalist Sean Aylmer sets listeners up with all the important business news you need to impress (or annoy) friends with. With each ep coming in at under 15 minutes (Sunday sessions are a bit longer), it’s quick, concise, and easy to fit into the schedule.
The Sure Thing
If you’re looking for a bit of a white collar crime thriller, this new six-part podcast from The Australian Financial Review ticks all the right boxes. Hosted by investigative reporter Angus Grigg, it painstakingly picks apart Australia’s biggest insider trading scam, committed by two university friends whose ultimate downfall was greed. Juicy.
The Money Café
Hosted by The Australian’s wealth editor, James Kirby, The Money Café explores the biggest news in business, finance and economics whilst bringing on relevant experts to discuss how and why the news impacts you as an investor. From lessons in Bitcoin to how to invest for your kids (by no means giving financial advice here, but the former might answer the latter) this weekly pod leaves no stone unturned.
Equity Mates
If you’re looking for an easy-to-understand investment podcast that’s as friendly as it is informative, you might want to check out Australia’s #1 investing podcast, Equity Mates. Hosted by—you guessed it—two mates, Bryce and Alec, episodes cover everything they should be teaching us in school instead of algebra, like the ASX, taxation, and building your portfolio.
We Study Billionaires
Pretty self-explanatory, really. An American show hosted by Stig Brodersen and Trey Lockerbie, We Study Billionaires analyse the lives of some of the wealthiest people on earth—including Jeff Bezos, Warren Buffett, Howard Marks, and Bill Gates. Crowned the largest stock investing podcast show in the world with over 50 million downloads, this one will either leave you inspired or depressed.
Planet Money
Launched during the GFC in 2008, NPR’s Planet Money merges culture with finance, covering everything from the war in Afghanistan to cotton production to the pandemic.
